Greenraising Named Top 10 Greenest Startup of the Year
AGOURA HILLS, CA, November 12, 2007 -- Greenraising, a Southern California company specializing in eco-friendly and fair trade fundraising for non-profits, finished third in the nation in the “Greenest” category in the first annual StartupNation Home-Based 100 ranking of the nation’s top home-based businesses. StartupNation made its selection from among thousands of home-based entrepreneurs who entered the competition.
Greenraising co-founder Lisa Olson realized that there was a desire among parents to make “greener” choices, but that time was limited and information scarce. She created www.greenraising.com to help families go green and raise money for schools.
“For us, the inspiration for Greenraising came from our own children,” said Olson. “We saw them coming home selling cookie dough and magazines to raise money for their schools and thought that there must be a better way.” Olson found a variety of great products that help people to reduce, reuse, and recycle resources.
“Best of all, they raise money for non-profits and teach the children that they can make a positive difference in the world,” Olson says.
Charities participating in Greenraising include schools from 42 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Canada; a grass-roots organization in Venice, California that provides food and clothing to the homeless; The Sequoia Natural History Association, which provides visitor education for Sequoia National Park; a Wisconsin organization that helps people with cognitive disabilities; a rabbit rescue organization; and many others.
